The Competition is a member of the Russian Association of Musical Competitions.

Our Objectives:

n  Our most important goal is to summon the cultural heritage of modernity in order to foster humanistic and aesthetic education of the coming generations.

n  To broaden cultural connections and to improve cooperation between already established and young musicians from Moscow and other regions of Russia as well as from abroad.

n  We facilitate the exchange between central and peripheral institutions of higher musical education.

n  We strive to promote the intersections of classical and modern artistic styles and traditions.

n  One of our main goals is to discover and support talented performers and composers from all regions of Russia and abroad.

n  We strive to connect representatives of different artistic professions and to support the most talented individuals by creating networks that enable regular professional exchange.

n  Professional exchange among musical pedagogues working in all genres and media of music.

n  We encourage musicians to turn to the Romantic music of the past and modern music influenced by Romanticism, discovering new interpretive approaches to Romantic art.

The Competition includes four age groups.

  1. group: up to 12;
  2. group: from 13 to 17;
  3. group: from 18 to 25;
  4. group: from 26, age is unlimited

In the nomination  Instrumental chamber orchestra the age group is determined by the age of the oldest participant.

 

Program requirements:

Auditions in all nominations occur in one stage.

 

Section I. Classical performance (all nominations). The program includes works from different epochs, styles and genres:

  1. One or several works by baroque or classicist composers.
  2. One or several works by Romantic composers (West European or Russian).
  3. One or several works by 20th and 21st century composers (of any national origin).

In the nomination Piano Solo performers are not allowed to perform concertos.

In all nominations performers are allowed to perform one or several parts of cyclical works.

Participants in the nomination Chamber Instrumental Ensemble, Piano Ensemble, Voice Ensemble and the Art of Concertmaster are allowed to use the score.

 

Section II. I. Composition and Composer's Performance

Nomination Composition:

One or several works of one's own composition  in any genre.  The scores should be in formats *.jpeg, *.jpg, *.tif, *pdf. And audio recording  in mp3 are to be mailed by electronic mail along with the application. The time of performance is determined by the age of the participant (see below). Only remote participation is possible.

 

                   Nomination Composer-Performer:

One or several works of one's own composition performed by the compsoer herself (one may alos perform in an ensemble). The scores printed out on paper are to be presented on the day of the Competition's opening during the Registration of the participants.

 

Section III.  Musical Pedagogy:

 

Nomination Musical Pedagogue:

One should conduct an open lesson with one's student on a topic chosenby the participant himself:

  1. One or several works by baroque or classical composers.
  2. One or several works by Romantic composers (West European or Russian).
  3. One or several works by 20th and 21st century composers (of any national origin).

 

Nomination Methodology:

A presentation on a topic of relevance in cotemporary musicology, musical pedagogy, psychology, methodology (chosen by the participant himself). One may present in Russian or English. Remote participation is possible. In case of remote participation the text of the presentation is sent along with the application materials. The text should not exceed 25 000 signs. The font is Times New Roman 14 (the title and the main body of the text) and 12 (notes).

 

The length of performance:

Age groups:

1 group: up to 12 (the length  of performance 7-10 minutes. Vocal performance up to 8 minutes);

2 group: from 13 to 17 (the length of performance 12-15 minutes. Vocal performance – up to 10 minutes);

3 group: from 18 to 25  (the length of performance 15-20 minutes. Vocal performance – up to15 minutes)

4 group: from 26 , age is unlimited (the length of performance 15-20 minutes. Vocal performance – 15 minutes).

If the participant performs longer than allowed, the jury may interrupt them or shorten the program.

 

In the section Musical Pedagogy only the musicians of the 3rd and 4th age groups may take part.

 

Nomination Musical Pedagogy:

The length of the open lesson

3rd and 4th group: 20 minutes

4 group:  30-35 minutes

Nomination Methodology Readings

He length of the presentation (including illustrations) for the 3rd and 4th groups is 15 minutes.

 

Competition Results:

GRAND-PRIX – 50 000 rubles

The winners of the Competition in every nomination and age group are awarded the certificates of the Laureate (I, II, III, IV place) and Diploma-holder of an International Competition.

Every participant receives a certificate of a Participant in an International Competition.

The Laureates take part in the final concert. They also get invited to take part in the concerts of the International Forum в «Romanticism: Origins and Beyond» during the 2021-2022 season. The concerts will take place in the Gnessin Academy of Music and other concert halls in Moscow.

 

The documents that must be submitted to the Admissions Committee:

1) Filled out Application (it must be prepared in Word!). The name of the file should contain the participant's first and last names. For example: John Smith.

Nomination and Age Group

 

First and Last Name (in the Nomination Chamber Instrumental Ensemble the participants are  listed in the alphabetical order and the instrument is mentioned in brackets)

 

The country represented by participant

 

Date of Birth (for example: 27.08.1980). Age (for example: 11)

 

Academic Affiliation

 

The name of the Pedagogue (including academic and honorary titles)

 

The program, including the general length of performance (in the nomination Methodology Readings one must indicate the title of one's presentation)

 

The Address including zipcode

The need for a Concertmaster or Illustrator

Additional wishes

 

 

2) Picture (*.jpg). The name of the file just contain the participant's name. For example: John Smith.

3) A copy of a Birth Certificate or Passport.

4) A copy of a Diploma or a Certificate from one's school or another academic institution.

5) A short creative biography.

6) Recommendation written by a pedagogue, an academic institution, or a creative organization (at will).

7) A copy of the receipt proving that the organization fee has been paid.

 

Organization Fee for solo performers, composers and participants in the section Musical Pedagogy is 100 $ or 90 Euros. The organization fee for an ensemble and choir is 60$ or 50 Euros from each participant.

Organization fee shall not be returned.

Application, documents and the copy of receipt/ proof of payment об should be emailed to f_romant@mail.ru

by May 10, 2021.

The expenses should be covered by the organizations that support the participants or participants themselves (travel, accommodation, food).

Organization fee for participants who have taken part in the Fifth International School of Musicians and Composers dedicated to the memory of Elena F. Gnessina (February 13-16, 2021) for solo performers and composers. Instructors, school pupils and students, graduate students, assistants, professional musicians and music lovers are cordially invited to take part in this event.

The program of the school will include the same nominations as the Competition. It will include seminars, master classes, and lectures by the jury members (professors of the Russian Academy of Music and the Moscow State Conservatory).

 Each participant who has fulfilled the requirements will receive a Certificate. Applications are accepted until January 15th, 2021.

The participants who have already taken part in the Fifth International School the application fee for the Competition is 60 dollars or 50 Euros.  The fee for the ensemble is 50 dollars or 40 Euros from each participant.
